Bike Buffet for Culture Night
Westport Smarter Travel and Gnó Mhaigh Eo will present a special Bike Buffet for Culture Night, this evening Friday, September 16. The plan is to meet in Westport Town Hall at 6.30pm, where people can enjoy a deoch while catching a sneak peak of the newly written play on the life of Major John MacBride: Foxy Jack – Giolla Éireann.
Westport Chamber Music Festival is ready to entertain
his year’s Westport Festival of Chamber Music takes place in Westport House on Friday September 9 at 8pm, and on Saturday September 10 at 12 noon, 8pm, and 10.30pm in the Town Hall Theatre. It will come to a close on Sunday September 11 at 3pm in Holy Trinity Church. The three venues are ideal for chamber music, providing intimate acoustic experiences. Artistic director Hugh Tinney said: “Our Westport Festival has grown in the past three years into a cultural event that fits seamlessly into the Westport autumn, yet with an atmosphere and a following all of its own. Everything plays its part in this collaborative sharing between musicians, audience members, venues, organisers and other local supporters.”

Get active for Spring Forward festival
Westport Smarter Travel is holding a host of events to celebrate the summer, the longer days, and achievements of Westport Smarter Travel and the community. The festival which kicked off on Wednesday and runs until Saturday April 30 and will began with a Walk to Work (WOW) day, and last night Thursday April 21, the Westport Operation Transportation winners were announced at an award ceremony in Westport Town Hall. The participants and winners received their awards from a very special guest, Luke Concannon of Nizlopi, most well known for "The JCB Song" which reached number one in the UK and Irish charts.
Slow progress on Westport House's future
Some progress has been made in relation to the future of Westport House, but it could be a number of months before the historic house and estate's future is known. Independent councillor Christy Hyland raised the issue of the house at the April meeting of Mayo County Council this week. Chief executive of Mayo County Council, Peter Hynes, responded to Cllr Hyland saying: "In relation to Westport House, a bit of progress is being made, I can't say any more."

A short statement released on the behalf of the promoters of the event said: “After three fantastic years in Westport, the promoters have made the difficult decision to move the popular boutique festival.”
